In our home, the utility room seems to be the communal junk room! It’s that space behind closed doors where coats, shoes, laundry, dog food, leads, and all manner of stuff seem to find temporary residence.
It’s my mission to organise this room into a lovely usable space. It’s a small area so storage bins and a good organisation system is a must.
A combination of brick walls, exposed beams and metal and wood surfaces are the signature of the industrial kitchen.
Mix in rustic neutral tones, industrial light fittings, vintage mis-matched chairs and a large organic table made from salvaged wood to complete the residential meets commercial kitchen.
At the top of my “Must Have List” is a large social kitchen. Guests always seems to congregate in my kitchen so I love the idea of a large open plan space where I can cook and still chat with family and guests.
I’ve decided to start posting a “Photo of the Week”. I thought it might be fun to share some images that stood out to me during the week. It may be an image from a project I’m working on, or something I’ve found on-line which inspires me, or even something from my personal life. Who knows…… we’ll see how it goes 🙂
This post is part of my Ask The Designer series. Hi, I’d love to brighten up our kitchen as i find it quite dark.Its a kitchen/dining/living area combined. Its 25 ft by 14ft with terracotta floor tiles, solid ash kitchen units, black granite worktop,timber ceiling,timber blinds,cream walls with a feature colour on the chimney. I’m only changing blinds and wall colour at the moment(on a budget!)Any colour suggestions would be extremely helpful and my big question is should I paint the timber ceiling or is that risky???? Really grateful for any ideas.
Valentines Day is getting close. But it doesn’t have to be all about red roses and chocolate, sometimes love can be just black and white.
