Photo of the Week – 14th April 2013

One of the things I love most about the internet is the ability to connect with people from all over the world.  And thanks to Twitter, it also affords us the ability to connect with people in Space!!! Commander Chris Hadfield is a Canadian astronaut aboard the International Space Station.  He regularly tweets photo’s of Mother Earth and it’s just amazing to see how our planet looks from afar.

His love of Ireland is well known at this stage and he regularly tweets photo’s of our little green land.  He even tweeted a photo of himself “Wearing the Green” on St Patrick’s Day! Earlier this week Cmdr Hadfield treated us to a sequence of photo’s of Ireland. This image of Dublin was taken on clear night on 9th April.  Isn’t it just incredible how clear it is?  Apparently it’s not just the Great Wall of China that can be viewed from Space…. The M50 is clearly visible in this photograph! 🙂

If you’re on Twitter and you’re not already one of his 650,000 followers, I strongly suggest you become one.  His tweets brighten up my timeline every day!   (Mind you, I do often wonder how he gets WiFi in space……. half the time, I can’t even get mobile coverage in Carpenterstown 🙂 🙂 )

Also Astronomy Ireland have advised that from now until the 22nd April the ISS is currently visible in the evening blazing across the Irish Sky!  Maybe you could snap a photo of him!
