It’s June so that can only mean one thing in Dublin…… Bloom.
I went along yesterday with my mum and we spent a glorious afternoon wandering around admiring the amazing gardens. The weather may not have been as good as it was last year, but even though it was overcast we were lucky that the rain held off.
This is the 5th year of the event and it just keeps getting better and better. There were some incredible and creative gardens on show and the talent and imagination of the garden designers never ceases to amaze me.
Among the show gardens there is the Lights, Camera Action garden designed by Garden Design Students of CFE in Dundrum.
I know it’s designed with Charlie Chaplin in mind, but I could quite happily watch the Euro’s from here 🙂
The Reigning Cats and Dogs Garden designed by the incredibly talented 10 year old Miah Ní Nualláin who by the way is now the worlds youngest designer to feature in a horticultural show.
Miah Ní Nualláin is a 10 year old girl who is a huge supporter of animal rights and believes that pets are extremely important in a child’s life. She is a fluent Irish speaker, plays violin, piano and tin whistle, loves to walk her two dogs Cody and Misty and play chasing with her cat Croi. Her hobbies include Irish dancing, cycling, gardening, playing camogie for her school and reading. Since the first Bloom 2007 she has helped her uncle Fiann with his gardens, be it watering the plants, weeding or raking the grass, Miah’s love for gardening and pets are now combined into one amazing project. This time Miah has designed her very own garden for Bloom. This garden will incorporate a storyline; a day in the life of a cat and dog, who daydream their ideal garden. Bio from Bloominthepark.com
I’d love to see Arthur trying to bury THAT bone! 🙂
Looks like I’m not the only one who loves this cool contemporary space designed by local Castleknock based GardensNow.ie
There are far too many spectacular show gardens to feature them all, but click on the image below to open the slideshow to see some of my favourites
Another favourite of mine (who am I kidding, they are ALL my favourite) is the Birds and Bees Garden designed by Cork based Ben Landers.
I’m not a fan of bees but if I woke up to this every morning, I’d make an exception 🙂
And how about the Cavan Crystal Hotel Wedding Garden by Jason Stubbs, a stunning romantic space which even comes complete with it’s own Flowergirl 🙂
As usual Bloom has a lot more to offer than just gardens. There is musical entertainment, cookery and gardening demonstrations, kids zones, the OPW Walled Kitchen Garden and The Food Village where we happily munched our way through several mouth watering delicacies. And you can also avail of the Plant Creche where you can leave your purchases while you continue exploring all that Bloom has to offer. The lads will even help you bring your purchases back to your car!
My mum and my cousin Gill who was taking a break from her duties at the Plant Creche.
Bloom runs until Monday so if you’re in Dublin I strongly recommend you get yourself down to the Phoenix Park. And the best bit….. kids go free!!
